Bobbe Shire shares her knowledge of the Death Drop. Bobbe starts off the video with a candid admission that she is not as comfortable with this spin as with the others she talks about here at iCoachSkating.com. Nevertheless, I think you’ll agree that there’s loads of useful information in this presentation.
Bobbe mentions the importance of having a strong “hook” and also the build-up of energy from swinging the free leg around. She also wants the skater to hit the sit position as quickly as possible after landing but doesn’t focus on this when a skater is initially learning this spin.
She shows another great drill which she calls the “hotcha” (I have no idea how to spell it!). This drill is great for getting the proper quickness and movement of the body in the air, with the skater safely on the ice. Notice in the drill she wants the left arm forward (as it’s a common error in death drop to let the left arm drift). She also explains a simple “trick” to quickly get from the stretch position to the back sit.
Bobbe’s demonstrator does some fabulous death drops including a nice Level 4 spin. She also demonstrates another drill that helps a skater develop the proper feeling for the death drop by going from a camel spin to a single illusion to the death drop (very rhythmical).

Bobbe, you’re too modest! I used to do death drop as a skater and your explanations of it are spot on. Your other videos have been so helpful too. Gr8 spinning from Allie by the way! Many thanks.
