Bobbe Shire discusses additional positions for the layback spin. Her demonstrator shows a version of the spin that can gain rotational speed as well as the haircutter. Both can result in a increase in the IJS level of the spin.
At the beginning of the video, Bobbe discusses a layback version that can accelerate. Bobbe refers to “George” which represents rotational energy. By bringing the arms up and in, it is possible to accelerate the rotation of the spin, thereby getting a feature.
The second part of the video focuses on the haircutter position for the layback spin. The haircutter has become very popular as an IJS difficult variation in the layback and skaters of all levels are attempting them. Bobbe offers suggestions to help get the best position possible. The tip she gives for elbow position and movement is priceless for coaches, as most skaters have to figure it out on their own (as their coaches did not do this position themselves).
