Figure Skating Figures: Backward Inside Loops (Amy Brolsma)

Amy Brolsma shows how she teaches back inside figure loops.  (To see Amy’s presentation on forward inside and outside figure loops, visit her bio page.  See her presentation of back outside figure loopshere.)  There’s been a renewal of interest in figure loops based on their use in footwork sequences for IJS programs and the new USFS moves in the field patterns.  But many young coaches who never did figures have never really learned loops themselves and have not learned how to teach them.  So today’s skaters and coaches will both benefit from this presentation.

As with Amy’s other presentations of figure loops, she discusses and demonstrates body position, shoulder and arm position and movement and free leg position and movement.  She stresses that skaters needs to look back underneath their armpits to get the correct position and rotational pressure.  Amy also discusses the most common problem with inside figure loops.
