Amy Brolsma explains how she teaches forward inside three turns. She covers the initial position and before working on the turn she wants her skaters to be able to comfortably ride a forward inside edge. She explains the need to rock up to the toe on the blade as she covered in a previous video.
She explains where she wants her skater’s head throughout the turn. And she also explains that she wants her skater’s free toe to point down after the turn. She provides focus points to observe to minimize the most common problems.
Also, Amy really likes the toe to heel foot positioning for control. In fact, she teaches the moves in the field this way as well as the initial turn lessons. Watch the video to hear her reasons. If you teach your skaters to extend the free leg on their moves three turns, listen carefully to what Amy says to see if it might help your skaters.

Great explanation of why the fundamentals of body control are important. Many skaters focus on the skate and not what the rest of the body is doing. Thanks!
Thank you for your insight Amy! I have looked for a hula hoop for a couple of days, not the time of year to get one in Colorado! I love that you teach the turns with the legs together. That is also my tendency coming from a figure background. Great info!
