Audrey Weisiger continues with the second stroking exercise intended to help her skaters with their posture, alignment and control. The first stroking exercise used simple mohawks and steps to change from forward to backward and vice versa.
In this video, the skater performs an inside three turn with a quick foot cross to simulate the quick turn-over needed in jumps. The pattern is a forward cross-over followed by a forward inside three turn, a quick cross and then a step back to forward. The skater should perform the exercise keeping the head still and facing the direction of travel.
As in the first exercise, the skater balances a stuffed toy on her head to keep the exercise smooth and well aligned. As Audrey notes, young skaters particularly like the challenge of keeping the toy balanced on their head and it is also particularly valuable and effective for them to train this way.
