Bobbe Shire shares some tips on learning the cannonball sit spin variation. According to Bobbe, the best cannonball position has the free leg completely parallel to the ice. The skater can be at the magic 90 degree position or slightly below. The free leg should be as straight as possible. (Note: It is very difficult to get the upper body “glued” to the free leg if the skater is sitting down too far on their heel.)
Bobbe tells her skaters not only to keep their free legs straight, but to feel like they are “stretching their butt way out behind them.” Bobbe tells them to tuck their chin and try to put their forehead on their knee or shin, depending on how long their torso is. Bobbe does not focus on turning out the free foot but she is not against it either.
Common errors are butt being too high or dropping too low.
Nice demonstration.

Thanks Bobbe! I love the “stretching the butt way out”. I think all your suggestions will help my students from getting too far up on their toepicks.
