Figure Skating Camel Spin Tips: Outside Edge Change (Bobbe Shire)

Bobbe Shire offers some excellent tips for change edge camels.  This is a continuation of her initial discussion of the change edge camel.  In this video, Bobbe reveals an almost “magic” arm and body movement that helps many skaters accomplish the edge change from the back inside to the forward outside.  Note that Bobbe only tries this once the skater can change the edge and get half a circle.  This is the sort of “trick” that many coaches keep as a personal coaching secret so please leave Bobbe a comment in appreciation of her willingness to share.

Bobbe also talks about a second tip involving bending the skating knee just prior to the edge change so the skater can push the skate forward.  At the end of the video, Bobbe offers another tip where she has her skaters feel their “pivot place” on their back (core) and stretch everything away from that point.  The pivot place is basically the small of the back.  This is a very helpful tip as many skaters incorrectly attempt to pivot through their hips.

In the middle of the video, there’s a very short clip of one of the demonstrators attempting a forward inside edge camel (from the back outside camel).  That was not the purpose of this video and it snuck in during the editing process.  Please disregard it.
