Basic Ice Skating Spins: Fix Traveling (Bobbe Shire)

Bobbe Shire discusses what causes traveling in a spin and what you can do to minimize it.  This video is a continuation of her introduction to spinning, 5 Step Approach to Spinning.  In the previous video Bobbe introduced “Fat George” and in this video she says “never sock George.”  What she means is don’t make abrupt movements when pulling in during the “squeeze George” phase.  Bobbe is so creative at coming up with memorable phrases that help her skaters understand and remember the important concepts.  She also talks about the toe pick and how it can cause traveling, especially for young skaters.  Enjoy.

(Webster’s Dictionary:  sock – to hit, strike, or apply forcefully;  to deliver a blow)
