How To Center A Figure Skating Spin: 1 Foot Spin (Charyl Brusch)

In this short video, spin specialist Charyl Brusch builds on her previous videos and discusses centering of a forward scratch spin.  Even though this video is short, it covers some important concepts and tips that will help skaters get and maintain centered spins.

First, after the first demonstration Charyl notes that the three turn should “face in the middle of the circle.”  She wants the skater to focus on staying on the outside edge all the way into the three-turn.

Notice in the second demonstration the skater is able to initially center the spin but loses center as the spin winds out.  Charyl suggests having the skater turn her entire body a little more toward the skating side (in this case, left).

Another common error Charyl addresses is the initial step direction into the spin.  She draws a picture on the ice to demonstrate what she wants.

We are very fortunate to have a spin specialist of Charyl’s caliber as a presenter at iCoachSkating.com. Please leave a comment for Charyl or other members below.
