Computer Video Analysis of Triple Loop
Play the top video first to see the jump being analyzed.
Then play the second video to the see the analysis by Page Lipe. Trevor Laak is sitting in with Page and he makes some observations and asks questions.

This is one of the most concise yet fully descriptive explanations of the loop jump I’ve ever seen. When I give presentations or analyze loop jumps, this is nearly identical to what I focus on. I cannot tell you how important each of Page’s observations are to making this jump successful. Here’s a brief recap:
1. Strong over right side on setup – shoulders twisted to right, with shoulders over the right hip over the skating foot, free leg across, upright stance and not “squatty”
2. Pivoting into jump – free leg is ALWAYS across (feel like they’re rotating under their thigh), head does not lead into rotation (head neutral or still in rink), arms narrow
3. Forward take-off – stay down until forward, free thigh up in H position, arms level, point take-off toe strongly to push off
4. Air position – ankle contact (feet together), free hip slightly up, straight landing leg, don’t point landing toe in the air, straight landing leg, point landing toe slightly prior to touch down
5. Landing – strong over right side, shoulders twisted to right, with shoulders and right hip over right skate, free thigh comes up, hips stay closed (to minimize turn-out), back up and good extension

Does the “distance” in loop jump come from (3.) …”point take off toe…” or does it come from getting the free thigh up into an “h” after the take-off? (or both?) I ask because I feel like I’m just jumping straight up and not getting anywhere near enough distance. Perhaps I should be pushing outward on the take-off? Help!
Great 5 point review. I think I may print that out & give it to one of my skaters that has an inconsistent double loop right now 🙂 Thanks for the concise steps!
Thank you so much for making this video!! It has helped me a lot!
