Matthew Blair Davis describes the third step in the 3-step process he uses to improve a skater’s vertical jump. After working to correct and perfect a skater’s squat (step 1 – strength), and developing a powerful and fast jumping motion (part 2 – power), Matthew recommends super-setting strength with power.
In this video he shows a common superset for upper body strength and explosiveness. These upper body exercises are not intended to directly help a skater’s vertical jump but similar ideas can be applied to working the lower body. Specifically for vertical jump training, one could superset by loading the squat (once it is being performed correctly) and then do the box jumping as in step #2.
