Axel Jump Lesson Part 1 – Back Spin And Landing (Nick Perna)

Nick Perna gives an axel lesson to Kayla.  Kayla is a low level skater currently learning an axel.  This video is the first in a series of videos covering the entire half-hour lesson.  In the first part of this lesson, Nick gets to know Kayla and he starts with her backspin.

Right out of the gate, Nick is concerned about Kayla’s turn-out in the ‘d-position’ of the backspin.  Nick also addresses Kayla’s tendency to arch her back on the spin exit.  After making improvements to these things, Nick asks Kayla to hop out of the backspin and he also uses a back pivot entrance to the backspin.

Stay tuned for the continuation of this lesson…

Nick, if I always do exactly what you tell me to do, when you tell me to do it, I will do it exactly right! 🙂

Thanks Nick! Some great tips. I realize some of my students are very arched coming out of their back spins. I will use your tips right away! I look forward to the rest of the videos!
