Page Lipe continues her discussion of checking out of jumps. This video focuses more on air position issues, but a strong and correct air position is necessary to be in position to check out strongly. The information that Page shares in this video is universally understood by high level coaches, but has not filtered down to many developmental coaches.
In particular, the ideas that the free hip should be up, the free knee should be in front of the landing knee, and “ankles together, knees apart” are still not well understood by many coaches. This air position is endorsed by virtually every high level coach that I’ve approached, yet many coaches are still teaching their skaters to get their thighs and knees together which drops the free hip and makes strong landings impossible.
Page shares some ingenious drills to help skaters with these concepts and feelings. The balance drill, the leg-lift-against-resistance drill, the plank drill, and the water-bottle-and-credit-card drill are all outstanding. This is a really excellent video that will help many many skaters and coaches.

Great! reminds me of the Jackhammer drill that Kristy Krall showed us at her seminar last year.
