Sheila Thelen shares a coaching secret for keeping her feet warm. Sheila uses battery powered boot warmers that she inserts into her skates. Sheila offers some tips on how to use the boot warmers as they are not designed specifically for figure skating. Notice that she tapes the heating unit down and then puts the insole back in over the heating unit. After tying her skates she clips the battery pack onto her laces and then uses a mini Champion cord to lash it down so it can’t pop off. You can purchase these kinds of heating units a number of places online. But as Sheila mentions in the video, she also sells them herself. (Her office number is 651-257-1004 or visit Champion Cords, although I don’t think they’re listed on the website.) I’m sure Sheila can also hook you up with a set of the mini-Champion Cords as well. (I’m not sure but it’s possible you could also use a product like Kathy HurdCarrillo’s KatStrapz which are actually designed for improved skate lacing to hold the battery pack in place. -Trevor) Coaches that use these boot warmers never ever complain about cold feet.
