Sheila Thelen shares important basics and safety tips when using an overhead harness system. She also offers tips for getting skaters in and out. Sheila used to own a harness company so she knows a thing or two about it.
Harness safety is often overlooked by rinks and clubs and there doesn’t appear to be any helpful information about it online. Until now. This info is so important, iCoachSkating.com is making freely available to all of our guests. Enjoy.

Great Info – Wish we had one at our rink as I would use it a lot!!!
great things to keep in mind, thanks!
Very Helpful – Thank you
I enjoyed the info. as I’m not entirely comfortable using the harness. Would appreciate some demonstrations for both use in jumps and spins.
Very good basic information that is good to review even with the skaters and parents
As this was meant to be a safety video I think it was well worth watching. Thanks, Sheila.
Hello, can you please post some more information on this topic? I would like to read more.
Good information, but a demo would be nice on the timing of the harness.
I would love to learn how to use the belt system properly. Right now -since I’m a newbie to coaching, i will continue to watch and learn from other pros ath our rink. This was great insight. Thank you
I agree with Maxime, at our club we use a belt system. It would be nice to see a demo on both type of harness.
Good info for someone first starting out – a demo would be good. Also, keep in mind that there are differnet harnesses around the country. Ours for example is a BELT system around the waist! Very differnt from what you are showing here.
Excellent information and nicely presented. In addition would like to see a demo of it’s use as an example. The subject is extremely important, especially to young coaches in training.
excellent and clear informations…good job
