Figure Skating Choreography Ideas – Part 3 (Tricia Offerdahl)

Tricia Offerdahl continues her development of Leah’s program.  This is Part 3 in a multi-part series.  In this video, you’ll see Trish adjust the program timing to match the music, methodically add elements, and again changes the skater’s level during a high point in the music (this time UP with a ballet jump).  Observe how Trish gently and persistently reminds the skater to make corrections on earlier sections of the program during run-throughs.

In this video, Trish takes a moment to talk with you about arms and feet.  She makes it clear that the arms are secondary to the skating aspects of the program and the arms shouldn’t be a major focus during the initial program setting phase if the skater cannot handle it.

Also notice that Trish is constantly challenging the skater.  Since this skater is comfortable with arms and feet together during the choreography process, she challenges the skater with some footwork from Novice Moves and a Bauer.  This section will remain difficult for the skater throughout these videos, but this is one way to advance our skaters’ skills.

(Trish gives some tips on teaching a Bauer if you listen carefully.)
