Figure Skating Choreography Ideas – Part 5 (Tricia Offerdahl)

Tricia Offerdahl continues her development of Leah’s program.  This is Part 5 in a multi-part series.  In this video, you’ll see Trish make changes to the program.  She uses Leah’s input to move the Bauer to a later point in the program.  She replaces the original Bauer with power threes.

Notice the initial direction that Trish demonstrates the power threes and how it affects Leah’s understanding.  From that moment on, it becomes difficult for Leah to move the tap-toe and power three to the desired location and direction on the ice, because she is focused on keeping it where it was originally demonstrated. This is pretty common for many skaters.  To avoid this, try to demonstrate and have them practice maneuvers where they will be in the final program.  This is not always possible because you may not always know where it will be exactly, but in that case, it can be helpful to practice the maneuver out of context in a completely different location.

Also see how Trish adds a second lutz, then tries to get Leah to do a difficult back power three entrance to loop jump.  She decides not to lose time trying to get Leah to do it and keeps it simple for the time being.  Given the time constraints, this was a logical choice.
