Triple Axel in 1957?
This YouTube video shows David Jenkins performing a triple axel in 1957. That’s incredible considering the jump wasn’t officially performed in competition until 1978 by Canadian skater Vern Taylor at the World Figure Skating Championships. (That’s 21 years later!)
If you stop the video and look at David’s technique, you’ll see nearly the same body positions and movements as executed by more recent skaters. Also, consider the quality of the skating boots that David Jenkins probably wore to get an even deeper appreciation of his talent.
This is amazing and one the most surprising little gems on YouTube. Please leave a comment!!

David Jenkins’ single (and triple) Axel remind us how distance and height need to be balanced throughout the jump, making it worth something to be noted during practices, competitions and performances.
