Circular Figure Skating Stroking and Step Sequences – Part 4 (Audrey Weisiger)

Audrey Weisiger continues with the fourth stroking exercise intended to help her skaters with their posture, alignment and control.  The first stroking exercise used simple mohawks and steps to change from forward to backward and vice versa, the second stroking exercise employed a forward inside three turn, and the third stroking exercise focused on utilizing both pushes in a forward crossover.

The fourth exercise consists of a forward crossover, a forward outside bracket, a backward crossover, and a step forward.  The body faces outside the circle on the bracket and inside the circle on the step forward.  The head faces in the direction of travel and begins to change on the backward crossover and step to forward, ultimately returning to the direction of travel.

The goal of this exercise is to help the skater get comfortable with counter-rotational movements and moving the head while stroking.

Audrey, I have brought these stroking exercises to my skaters and I loved it! It really challenges them and it drives them mad if they cannot keep the animal on their head!
