Figure skating coach Kate Charbonneau provides an off-ice warmup intended to move different parts of the body through a range of motion. The idea is to get the skater ready for more intense off-ice exercises, or it can be used as a warm-up prior to an on-ice session as well. Kate has selected music that makes this warmup very relaxing.
The exercises include head rolls, shrugs and shoulder rolls, waist bends and full overhead extension, arm circles, upper body isolations, side bends, slow hip circles, side lunges, and split squats to full body extension and back bends. Notice the constant use of arms and extension throughout, developing musicality and movement patterns that should transfer to the ice.
